Ringless Revolution: Why Millennials and Gen Z Are Putting Marriage on Hold

The Evolving Definition of Commitment: Why Marriage Isn't Always the Answer for Young People

Regardless of sexual orientation, the 21st century has brought with it a series of very significant changes in modern society in relation to the couple. Today's young people or called millennials, centennials or crystal generation as many call them (people born in the 80's and in the year 2000 respectively) have a very different vision about marriage. According to studies carried out by anthropological and social entities from different countries and cultures, the tendency of young people is to postpone marriage, and they also do not see it as a stereotype to follow, as traditional societies and cultures have been doing, you can have and live with a partner without having to marry. Millennials and centennials are type of person who does not regard social paradigms, as create a family. They have their own way of thinking, they are more entrepreneurial and liberal, and even they do not keep pace with traditional society.

Economy, diversity of thought, happiness has nothing to do with what society has always marked, according to millennials and centennials.

Why young people don't want to get married?

Whatever their sexual preference, today's young people regularly have sex at a younger age. Many sociologists and anthropologist consider that this is due to the opening of information with the internet, technology and social networks. The latter is considered one of the main factors. On the other hand, the economic situation is an influence, and now it's very common for many millennials or centennials to choose to have children without marrying, especially the female sex, and the average age of marriages that continue to be registered already exceeds 35 years or older. However, of the couples who choose to marry, there are statistics where divorce rates have increased, and the factor that draw the most attention is the economic one. This kind of inequality ends up affecting the couple. In addition to this, cultural issues of a family nature impede the the maturity of the couple because they do not face daily problems in a focused and adequate way. Millennials and centennials have broken behavioral paradigms in different countries, especially Latin American, they have tried to imitate European or Anglo cultures, increasingly accentuating the nuances of this new society in which we are living.

The diversity of the couple, less religious nuances, and the fear of paternity are some other factors that characterize the lifestyle of many today's young people.

The prioritization of working life is also a characteristic of these young people, despite the fact that according to studies, today's young people have a more difficult outlook than their parents. Socio-economic uncertainly, war conflicts, global warming, the opening of new sources of employment, that is, relatively new problem. Despite this, millennials and centennials continue to distinguish themselves by defending their freedom without following the behavior patterns set by traditional society.
