An albino panther is a term used to refer to individuals of certain species of the genus Panthera (such as leopards or jaguars) that have white fur due to a genetic condition known as albinism. The image shows an albino ocelot, found in Colombia. Images may contain copyright.

Albino panthers do exist. Although extremely rare, leopards, pumas and jaguars with albinism have been documented. What is albinism? It is a genetic condition that causes an almost complete absence of pigmentation in the skin, hair and eyes. In the case of animals, this translates into white fur, red or pink eyes, and skin that is very sensitive to the sun.

Why are they so rare?
· Recessive genes: Albinism is caused by recessive genes, which means that both parents must carry the gene for their offspring to be born albino.
· Disadvantages in nature: Albino animals are usually more visible to predators due to their white color, which reduces their chances of survival. Additionally, they may have vision problems and be more sensitive to certain diseases.
